My AC went out during the hottest weather we had this past Summer. They got to me as soon as they could with the surge in calls. My old unit was way overdue to be replaced and there was a leak in the system, but Phillips kept us comfortable until they could come back and do the install. The price was fair, and the staff were friendly and knowledgeable . I appreciated their honesty when I asked about improving airflow throughout the house, and the owner told me that my furnace is what I would need to update, but that mine has a lot of life left. Called Phillip's Heating and Air Conditioning when my 30 year old furnace died. They found a cracked heat exchanger which could’ve created a dangerous condition by putting carbon monoxide in the house, along with other parts that just failed. Needless to say it was a good 30 year run and I felt we got a good price on a much-needed upgrade. We also replaced the 30 year old central air at the same time so it was compatible with the furnace system. The crew arrived less than 24 hours later and had everything installed in about six hours. Very professional in the way they handled everything. Listen and look for the early warnings. Squealing, banging or rattling usually means a part has worked loose or is wearing out, and an unusual smell from the vents is a reason to call us straight away. A jump in your utility bill with no change in the weather, one room cold while another is too warm, or a system that keeps switching on and off in short bursts (short-cycling) all point to a problem that will wear out the furnace or compressor if it is left. Call Phillip's Heating and Air Conditioning and we will find the cause and fix it before it turns into a breakdown.
Start with the easy one: change your air filter every one to three months. A clogged filter makes your furnace or AC work twice as hard and use more electricity. A programmable smart thermostat lets you turn things down while you are asleep or at work, and sealing leaky ductwork makes sure the air you pay to heat or cool actually reaches your rooms. If your equipment is more than ten years old, a new system gives you the biggest saving, and we can walk you through the utility rebates and tax incentives that may help with the cost.
As a rule of thumb, if your system is over 15 years old and needs a costly repair, replacing it is usually the better choice. Older units use outdated refrigerants and cost more to run and keep going. One simple test: multiply the age of the system by the cost of the repair. If it needs a service call just to get through each season, it is telling you its reliable years are over. We will look at it, explain what we find and what each option costs, and let you decide.
